i have so much I want to write (rant) about so many things

Yesterday I was reading the paper (at work) and finally got to page A8/A9 this page bugged me.... alot

The headlines were as follows:

"22 die in more Iraq suicide bombings"
"Package bomb used in Turkish attack"
"Indonesia to sign peace deal with Aceh rebels; Almost 30 years conflict has killed 15,00...."
"Disneyland draws thousands to 50th anniversary celebration"
"More then 50 dead in Equatorial Guinea plane Crash"
"Woman, children die as Pakistan soldiers fight suspected militants"
"11 firefighters die in forest blaze......"

Ok so let me explain what bothers me most:

1) there is a giant ad for a "3-day sale at HBC" next to all this, which seems very unimportant compared to everything except maybe the Disney headline, I care a bit more (only a bit) about a sale at HBC then if Arny went to the celebration.

2) has it become so natural that we as human beings killing each other that it makes the 9th! page of the news paper, meanwhile "Young beauty pulls ahead in battle for life" (a story about a beauty pageant contestant from Saltspring came RUNNER UP in the Miss Canada competition!!) or "First Race First Place" (a picture of a horse race from Sandown park) both make the Front page!!

Should it not bother us that people are senselessly dying in other places of the world and we have to go looking for it in the paper to find out what happened? How many ppl read all the way to page A9, before they turn to Entertainment or The comics or Sports?

How has the western world become so accustom to the rest of the world killing each other that we no longer give a shit?

Anyway there were many more things that I wanted to rant about, but I am tired! I have to work tomorrow!

I hope it rains for all you people planning on heading to the beach. fuck you!!

and as for your rant, thats the TC for you.
im sure that vibrator story beat out some terrible tragedy as well
stupid victoria news.

Yes your right thats the TC for ya, but its also half the papers and news agencies in the world.
A NY post journalist was put in jail, last week for reporting NEWS. JAIL! What happened to freedom of the press, someone made a great point the other day that Water Gate wouldnt have happened if it werent for a great journalist, today that is impossible, when the Supreme Court of the USA (most likely the most powerful ppl in the world when it comes to making laws) completely ignores the rules which it is saposed to govern!

its not that graham.. its not that we're so used to the bad stuff that it gets pushed to the back pages... its the fact that literally thousands of terrible, terrible things happen every day and we can't simply comprehend that, nor have it shoved in our faces daily.

I dont think anyone would disagree that these horrible things should not happen, so why is it we choose to ignore it, why isnt it shoved in our faces day after day after day until the people that can actually do something about it (ie the western world) choose to stop ignoring these atrosities. Examples through the last 20 years are easy to find where this has not worked, (Rawanda, Afganistan, Sudan, AFRAICA as a whole) When are we going to realize that the horrible things that hit close to home (9/11, London, Madrid, etc etc) are directly realated to the fact we ignore 80% of the world until they attack us or oil prices go up?

Is there an answer?

How to solve this dilemma

a) Join the army
b) go to new and intersting locales like haiti and afghanistan and other derkastans, and meet new and intersting terrorists
c) solve the problem yourself
